An independent report by a leading firm of chartered quantity surveyors, concluded that utilising hoists on construction projects was commercially prudent and could contribute tangibly both to productivity and profitability.
Key issues raised by the report highlighted that stairs and ladders are both difficult to use and can present safety hazards, particularly when loads or goods are being moved and on medium and high rise projects, recovery time can be as much as 20 minutes. Hoists provide faster, safer access for operatives, managers and client representatives.
Breakages can amount to as much as 10% of all materials used on projects. However this figure is dramatically reduced if a hoist is installed particularly when loads are palletised. Labour cost savings on a typical 15 storey project can be as great as 14% if hoists are installed.
